Do you realize how lucky we are? We are living in probably the most incredible era in the history of our planet and we get to be here for it. Why is it the most incredible era in the history of our planet, you ask? Because we know something that no one else knew.

We know the secret to life.   

The law of attraction has been around since the beginning of time and it has worked on every single person who has ever lived, including us. Most people just didn’t know it until now. But that’s not really what’s important. What’s important about it is that it can be completely manipulated by each and every one of us in order to design our lives to be exactly how we want them. In my book, The Secret Power of the Universe, I give you in depth detail on how to use the law of attraction successfully. But if you don’t want to read a book about it, below I share with you the 10 most important steps you’ll need in order to really “get” how to make the law of attraction work for you.

Keep in mind that I understand there are many posts on the Internet claiming to show you how to use the law of attraction in 3, 4, or 5 easy steps. And I wanted to do the same for you as I know 5 steps is so much easier than 10. However, when I tried to break it down I found there was just too much missing for real results. If I was to be honest then I had to give you all the information needed. Not just 5 easy steps. So, although there are twice as many steps here, if you do them all, I promise, you will achieve the results you’re looking for.

But first……..

What is the law of attraction?

Just like the law of gravity and the law of relativity, the law of attraction is one of our universe’s natural laws. It’s a law that we all live by and there’s no getting around it or changing it. So many people ask the question, “How do I make the law of attraction work?” But that’s the wrong question to be asking because the law of attraction is already working. It’s working constantly, for everyone, all the time and without pause. The right question to be asking is, how do I make the law of attraction work for me?

The law of attraction states, what we think about we attract into our lives. Have you ever wondered why the rich hang out with the rich and the poor hang out with the poor? Why do the preppy girls hang out together in one group while hipsters all hang in another? Well, most people don’t walk around all day thinking about other people’s lives, do they? No, we don’t. We go about our daily business focusing on ourselves and on our own lives, therefore attracting into it more people in similar circumstances to ourselves and to our own lives.

Happy and carefree people will attract more happy and carefree people because they are mainly focusing on themselves. Just as sad and angry people will attract to them more sad and angry people because they too are mainly thinking about themselves. But don’t misconstrue this as being a bad thing. It’s just human nature. We think about ourselves so much because it’s what we know the most about.

Not only do we attract people to us with the law of attraction but we also attract things and circumstances as well. Which means our lives have been entirely created by our own thoughts and feelings. Many people don’t want to believe this. If your life hasn’t been going so great you might want to shun that statement too. Who would want to except that the unsuccessful life of poverty a person is living has been completely created by themselves? But don’t fret. This is really good news. If we are creating our own lives with our thoughts then everything you have created up to this point can be undone just by changing your mental attitude and perspective.  

Starting today you can start to overturn all the things you don’t want in your life and generating the life of your dreams. 

Now lets dive in to the 10 most important steps to using the law of attraction successfully.

1. Know What You Want

Most people don’t really consider this an actual step. I do. There are many things I wrote in my book that will help you exponentially in making the law of attraction work for you but are not necessarily what I would call required steps. This one is.

First of all, lets start off by saying If you don’t have a clear understanding of what you want, that leaves you wide open to change your mind. And, yes, you are more than welcome to change your mind. But at some point you have to say enough is enough and make a final decision. Think of it this way. The universe is already working on bringing you what you want. Every time you change your mind, the universe has to stop and start the process all over again, making you have to wait that much longer.  But this next one is probably the most important reason why you should know exactly what you want. The universe is all about end results and could care less about ‘how’ you get it. Most of the time, what you want will cost money, right? Well, if you ask for money but the universe doesn’t see you with any house, car or new business to show for it, then the universe ultimately thinks you don’t need the money for anything, resulting in you not getting any.

Why would the universe give you money when it thinks you don’t have any need for it? Just because you ask for it doesn’t mean anything. The universe needs to see what the money is for. So figure out what you want. Really think about it until you’re sure of exactly what you want. Be as clear and precise as you can. Remember, the clearer and more specific you are the more precise the universe will be with what it gives you. Not only that but the clearer you are the faster you’ll get it.

2. Write it Out – I Ams & I haves Only

Writing a list of what we want is very important because, first of all, you will be using this list on a daily basis to help train your subconscious mind. But also, believe it or not, it’s actually pretty easy to forget what you want. As I mentioned in the first step, you have to be as specific as possible with what you want. Well, when you’re talking about exactly how much money you want to see in your checking account, how much money you want in your savings account and how much money you want to see in any stocks and bonds you might have, you could end up with too many numbers to remember. If you can’t remember how much money you originally asked for, the next time you bring it up to the universe you’ll end up having to think up another number. The universe has already begun creating for you the amount of money you wanted and had a plan on how it was going to get it to you. Changing even the slightest things in your list such as this could result in the universe having to completely change course, which can ultimately cause the whole process to take longer to work for you.

When writing your list you should first start off with your long-term goals. How do you see yourself at the height of your life? How much money do you have? How much money do you make? What kind of house do you live in? Where do you live? Do you have any vacation homes? How many months a year do you work? How many days a year do you vacation? By the height of your life, where have you been? Where have you already taken vacations? What kind of cars do you have? Do you have a pool? Do you have a housekeeper? Do you have a motorhome? Then do the same thing with your personal life.

After that you’re going to write a list of your short-term goals of things you think you should accomplish in the next 5 years. Once you have both your lists you are going to condense your lists into something short enough to be able to read to yourself several times a day

So we know that lists are important, but lately we’ve been learning one other thing that has really made this step a game changer. Instead of writing a list of things we want, we should be writing this list out acting as though we already have the things on the list. One of the most important things you can remember when using the law of attraction is this, the universe can and will only give us what it thinks we already have. So if we want to make things happen in our lives we have to do whatever it takes to get the universe to believe that we already have the thing it is we’re wanting. And when we do this it also helps us to condition ourselves into believing it as well.

3. Ask For What You Want

This one isn’t quite as obvious as it sounds. It’s actually quite interesting to me because I’m still to this day learning how technical the law of attraction really is. After you figure out exactly what you want you must ask for it. And I mean actually say the words either out loud or in your head. It doesn’t matter as long as the universe hears the actual request from you in words. You can think about what you want over and over and over again, but the universe won’t give it to you until you actually say or think the words, “please give me,” or, “I want,” or, “will you please bring me….” I don’t have any really good psychology behind this, but just know it works. I want to even encourage you to write it down and read it every day. 

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been looking for something around my house. I know what I’m looking for and I know I want help finding it, but it’s only at the very moment I either say or think the words, “Where is yada yada yada,” that I pick something up and what I’m looking for is right there, or I turn around to see it staring me in the face. It can get pretty weird sometimes. But it’s pretty awesome because I know once I actually ask for it, I’ll get what I wanted. The big stuff doesn’t always happen to me quite as quickly as when I’m looking for my keys. But it does work the same way. I do want to reiterate one thing. When we act as though the universe has already given us the thing we’ve wanted, that can be the same as asking for it. If you want a raise at work, you don’t have to ask for it. If you want to simply thank the universe for giving it to you since you know it’s already on its way to you. That works too. It may even work better than asking.

With all this being said, I think it’s important to add this one little detail. Don’t actually ask for it too much. Ask for what you want then let it go. If you continuously ask for something it’s going to send the message out to the universe that you don’t have it. I do however think you should talk about it. a lot. But just like your list, talk about it like you already have it. Instead of continuously asking for something, ask for it once or twice, then go about the rest of your time thanking the universe that you already have it and talking about how wonderful your life is now that you have it. If you want to think of it as lying to yourself, that’s fine. Fake it till you make it has a lot of truth to it. If you fake it, you will make it. 

4. Visualize it

Once you know exactly what you want you need to visualize it. Your future depends on your imagination. The bigger and more specific your imagination is the more of what you want will come to fruition. Devoting 10-20 minutes a day to visualize yourself in your new life is enough to make things happen, but know that the more time you put into it the faster what you want will come to you.

When you’re visualizing your new home, imagine it in fine detail. Not only do you want to imagine how many bedrooms and bathrooms it has but you’d be keen to visualize the layout of your house too. And then there’s the style of your bathrooms and kitchen cabinets and, what kind of appliances do you have and, what kind of furniture do you have filling your home? Do you have a pool? Is your garage a two or a three car, and do you have a lawn or a rock garden out front? These are all important things to consider when visualizing your home. You don’t want the universe to take its time brining you what you want simply because it hasn’t finished creating it due to lack of details.

On top of taking time out of your day to visualize, it will help immensely if you figure out ways to intertwine your visualizations into your lifestyle, allowing for you to spend even more time visualizing without having to take more time out of your day. For instance, if you’re on the computer a lot, create some images of yourself living that life you’ve been intending and use them as your screensaver. Do you realize you don’t even have to close your eyes to visualize? So, really, whenever your body is on autopilot, you can visualize. I would just make sure it’s during a time you can afford to let your consciousness go and allow your subconscious to take over for a bit You can visualize when you’re standing in line at the grocery store, while you’re cleaning, or while you’re cooking dinner. I even do it while I’m driving – carefully, of course. And when you’re visualizing, always remember this one important detail. Never visualize how you’re going to make things happen. You only need to focus on what you want your life to look like at its peak – not what it will look like while you’re still on your way there. I’ll explain more on this in one of the other steps.

 5. Have Faith / Believe

In order for you to manifest you must be able to absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, believe you will receive what you’re asking for. Now, I understand I’m making it sound easier than it is. And you’re right. In the beginning, it can be difficult. But in time, you will get better at it. This is probably the number one reason people can’t get the law of attraction to work in their favor. They get every other part right, but deep down they just can’t seem to honestly and whole-heartedly believe they’ll get what they’re asking for. But in reality, you have every reason in the world believe you will. The reason being, what you’re asking for is actually already yours anyway. It turns out, the moment you imagine up the thing you want in your mind, the universe creates it for you somewhere in space. Do you know that empty black space in between the stars and planets? That black empty space is really not empty at all. It’s called ‘ether’ and there’s actually quite a lot there. That black space, or, the ether is actually probability waves. It is the possibility of every single thing every person in the present and in he future is ever going to think of. This means what you want is being created in the ether (that empty space) the moment you think of it and because you’re the one who thought of it, it belongs to you. It’s just a matter of getting it to move from its original position of creation to where you are.

There is a book called, It is Done!  I love this book because it really helps you to sharpen this idea that once you ask for something, that’s it, it is done. It’s on its way to you. Once you ask for it you are slamming that nail into the coffin and sealing it shut. You will receive what you asked for. 

 6. Be Grateful

This step really should be one of the very first steps but writing it that way conflicted with the way I was going about explaining these steps. So although it’s here at number 6, please note that it’s really something that should be a part of your life even before you begin intentionally implementing the law of attraction to work in a positive way in your life.

If you want to harness the law of attraction then you need to get down with the attitude of gratitude. Being grateful is one of the simplest ways to ensure you get to keep what you have while also getting more of what you want. Everyone knows when they’re appreciated. The universe knows when it’s appreciated too. It hears you every time you say thank you. And it feels it each time you feel grateful. Think of the universe as a parent. When your child isn’t being grateful for the new toy you just bought him you don’t really feel like going out and buying him more toys, do you? Well, the universe feels the same way.

There are other reasons you should be grateful as well that aren’t so transparent. Did you know it’s impossible to feel unhappy and grateful at the same time? So when you’re feeling grateful, it means you’re also feeling good, which is the way you’re supposed to feel when trying to utilize the law of attraction. There are psychological reasons that being grateful works in a positive manner in our lives, but that’s a can of worms we really don’t have time to open in this post. However, the next step will shed a little more light on this manner.

7. Feel Happy

All our lives we have learned that when we get what we want then we will be happy. But the reality is, it really doesn’t work that way at all. Instead, we can only get what we want when we are happy first. Feeling happy is the fuel used to drive what you want from its position of origin to you. Every thing in this universe has a specific rate of vibration. And if you were to look at your hand under a microscope you would see that we actually vibrate too. Your job is to get your body to vibrate at the same frequency as the object of your desire. You do this through your feelings. When you’re happy, your rate of vibration gets higher and higher, and closer to matching up with the rate of vibration of what it is you want. And vice versa for when you are feeling down. When you are feeling upset, your body vibrates at a lower frequency, hence, pulling you further away from your desires.

As we all know, feeling happy isn’t always quite so simple to do, especially when we are creatures of habit and our habits have been to feel depending on what our life has been throwing at us. But once you fully understand that life has only been throwing back at you things that match the thoughts and feelings you’ve throwing out first, it should make it easier for you to change it up and start sending out good thoughts and vibes instead. When you do this you will be amazed at how fast the events and circumstances in your life begin to improve.

There are a lot of things you can do that will help but since this is a short step-by-step guide just to get you started, I’ll leave you with just a couple. First of all, we all know we can’t control every single thing you think about. But what you can do is catch yourself in your negative moments. Make a promise to yourself that for every negative thought you have, you will add a positive thought to what ever it is you were thinking about. This can seem tedious in the beginning, but after a while when you start seeing the results, it will give you the incentive you need to carry on and you’ll end up playing it like a game that becomes fun for you.

Another way you can keep your spirits up is by doing things that make you laugh and smile. Instead of listening to the radio, type in one of your favorite comedians into Pandora and listen and laugh all day long. Try not to watch things on TV that bring you down. Instead, watch uplifting movies and shows. I was a horror movie fanatic. But I have found over time, when I am in an especially good mood, it turns out I don’t even feel like watching horror movies. It’s not that I don’t want to. It’s just that I don’t feel like it at that moment. And that’s because what we think about we bring about. So when I’m thinking about really happy things all day long it makes me automatically want to subconsciously choose more things that will be uplifting for me, instead of my old favorites, ie. horror movies. 

8. Get Rid of Your Plan

I’m sure this is not the first post you’ve read on what the law of attraction is and how to use it. So, I’ sure somewhere along the way you have read about writing out your goals and then writing out a plan on how to get it.  Writing out what you want is fine. In fact as I explained in step 2, writing it out is one of the vital steps to making things happen for you. But when you do this you should never include how you’re going to make it happen. Here’s why.

First of all, knowing how something is going to come about is not your job. That job already belongs to the universe and the universe is excellent at it. It doesn’t need your help. Second, most of the time, our plans won’t coincide with what the universe has in store for us. When this happens, we can get so caught up in what we think the plan is supposed to be that we miss the important messages the universe is trying to tell us. If you have it in your head that you’re supposed to go left but the universe is trying to tell you to go right you might miss your go the wrong way or miss the turn completely. When this happens, don’t worry. As long as you stay focused on the end goal at hand the Universe will simply reroute you. But next time pay more attention. And the third reason you should leave the how out of the equation is that it takes up too much of your energy. That is energy best spent on doing your own job, ie. focusing on only your final destination.

9. Read the Signs & Act

While you are going through these steps you’ll start to notice you are coming up with a lot more great ideas and more opportunities are beginning to come your way. This is because the universe is working to make all your dreams come true. But it needs your help. The universe can give you all the steps and it can put everything required to take those steps in your path. But it can’t actually do the steps. That’s where you come in. Every time the you get a great idea in your head, the kind of idea that you automatically know is a good one that will work for what you’re trying to accomplish, that is inspired thought. It is your gut instinct. It is your intuition. It is your sixth sense. All of this is the universe giving you inspired thought and it wants you to take inspired action. This is the law of attraction at work.

So listen to it and do what it says right away. Don’t wait. When you wait you might end up thinking about it too much, which could cause you to question it. When you question it, it could cause you to start thinking of other things that were not inspired by the universe, possibly resulting in taking the wrong road again – just like you did when you were too focused on your plan.

Keep in mind the universe talks to us in many ways, not just by putting thoughts and ideas in our heads. It uses whatever avenue it can to get the messages you need in front of you. It uses the songs we hear on the radio. It puts the right show on the TV at the right time. It puts words in people’s mouths for us to hear. It uses signs we see on the road. Whatever you come across in your life, the universe uses to answer your prayers. And it answers them all the time, every time. 10. Reprogram/Brainwash Your Mind

When you are visualizing you are reprogramming and brainwashing your mind to believe you are already living the life of your dreams. But there are other things you can do to really drive it home. To really make this work quickly for you you’re going to want to read about and learn all you can about how to use the law of attraction. While you’re trying to change your life by using the law of attraction, studying it on a daily basis helps to keep reminding you to constantly and deliberately use it. Studying it keeps it in the forefront of your mind where otherwise you’d wake up in the morning with all intentions of using it only to find yourself either slowly losing interest or simply forgetting about it more and more often.

Another thing you should be doing is to surround yourself with reminders of your new life. Just like studying the law of attraction, this helps keep you on your toes. Make yourself a vision board. Make several of them. Cut out images of what you want and put them all over your home. Watch Youtube reviews on the things you want and watch them a lot. Use editing apps to edit photos and edit yourself into them. My family went on a Disneyland trip because I printed out a picture of Disneyland and then cut out a picture of my family and I and glued it to the Disneyland image so it looked like we were standing in front of Disneyland. Do whatever you can to make it look like you are in the image of what you want.

So, these are the 10 most important things you must do for manifesting what you want by using the law of attraction. Now, with that said, if you want to continuously manifest what you want throughout your life you need to find a way to add these steps into your every day normal life. Your life should get to a point where it feels like these aren’t even steps anymore. They’re just things you do. And the way we do that is by studying it. The most successful people in the world continuously study the law of attraction and how to become successful and they never stop. They are constantly learning and finding new ways of adding what they learn into their lives. This is how the successful not only become successful but this is how they stay successful.

Not everyone gets the law of attraction, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Learn it the best you can and I promise you, it will mean the difference between just knowing simply what the steps are, and having an innate understanding so deeply seeded that you make the law of attraction work for you all the time, every time.
